📉 Brazil again🇧🇷: in the first half of 2026, the share of the illegal betting market fell by 3-7 percentage points compared with the same period in 2025

The figure stood at 41-51% during the same period last year, while it currently accounts for 38-44% of all online betting activity.

🔤 Source of the data: the figures come from the study titled "Assessment of the Scale of and Fight Against the Illegal Betting Market in Brazil", conducted by LCA Consultores using data from the study "Prevalence of Illegal Betting in Brazil", carried out by the Locomotiva Institute at the request of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR).

🔤 Sample and betting behavior: the Locomotiva Institute survey was conducted in May 2026 and included 2,291 respondents from different Brazilian states.

🤩 During the three-month period analyzed, 48% of respondents placed bets on unauthorized domains. It is worth noting that licensed operators in Brazil use the .bet.br domain.

🤩 53% of respondents placed bets on websites that do not require facial recognition.

🤩 37% made deposits using credit cards, while 23% used cryptocurrencies. Cryptocurrencies are not permitted as a payment method in Brazil's regulated betting market.

🔤 “Offshore platforms are harmful and should be eliminated.” Regarding this statement:

🤩 only 5% strongly disagreed

🤩 another 5% partially disagreed

🤩 13% neither agreed nor disagreed

🔤 Objectives and context: it is possible that the study was also conducted so that the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, which has among other measures pursued restrictive policies toward gambling, including regulated gambling, could present the results of these policies as part of its achievements ahead of the upcoming elections.
