🎉 Bolivia🇧🇴: citizens will be able to use debit and credit cards from local banks abroad
On April 7, restrictions affecting 8 million cards issued in Bolivia and approximately 2.7 million users were lifted.
🟣 The use of credit cards will not be restricted, while debit cards will have a minimum limit of 500 USD per month, intended for purchases and payments abroad and on electronic platforms.
🟣 Transactions will be processed at a "reference” exchange rate, which is higher than the official rate (fixed since 2011 at 6.96 bolivianos) and published daily by the Central Bank. It is estimated at around 8–10 BOB.
🟣 However, several analysts have raised concerns about foreign currency reserves, as revenues from gas exports have declined since 2023, and FX availability at the Central Bank remains constrained. In addition, inflation exceeded 20% in 2025.
🟣 In this context, in January this year, the administration of Rodrigo Paz authorized withdrawals of USD-denominated savings for individuals and legal entities with balances of up to USD 1,000, aiming to restore liquidity for smaller depositors.
