💰Bitget wants to acquire Thailand-based crypto exchange GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics🇹🇭
The deal announcement came just one month after the major cyberattack against Bitget.
🗣️ GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics operates the Z.com EX exchange, launched in February 2021. The company is listed among digital asset operators licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand🇹🇭.
🗣️ The announced deal involves the sale of BTGT Management, in which Bitget holds a stake. The sale terms have not been disclosed. The transaction is scheduled to close on October 31.
🗣️ Bitget aims to enter Thailand’s crypto asset market through a locally licensed operator. However, the exchange’s own terms of use, updated on October 16, list Thailand among restricted jurisdictions, alongside Russia🇷🇺, Belarus🇧🇾, and Kazakhstan🇰🇿.
🗣️ On October 17, Bitget also announced that it would discontinue services for certain users “as part of a one-off exercise” and pledged to help those affected withdraw their funds. The tighter restrictions may be related to the September 24 cyberattack, which cost the exchange approximately USD 388 million. The North Korean group Lazarus🇰🇵 has been named in reports as a suspected perpetrator of the attack.
