👀 Azerbaijan🇦🇿: illegal online betting network dismantled with operations worth USD 5.88 million

The operation accepted illegal bets through Xbet and MostBet.

🤔 According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Zaur and Fuad Narimanov organized the acceptance of illegal bets through the AzeCash Telegram page. To operate the scheme, they rented an apartment where they stationed employees and provided them with equipment, bank cards, and phones.

🤔 Overall, the case is similar to the recent investigation into BakuCash, although the transaction volume in that case was considerably lower.

🤔 Context: Azerbaijan has a population of 10,268,165, while GDP per capita is USD 14,612. Authorities have adopted a policy of toughening sanctions against organizers of illegal gambling activities; in particular, the bill currently under consideration provides, in addition to increased prison sentences, for a fine that may be set at up to twice the amount of income obtained as a result of the crime.
