Argentina🇦🇷: three individuals implicated in the USD 18 million case remanded in custody
Here are the different parts of the story: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.
🌀 Another chapter in the Argentine case. The La Plata court ordered the pretrial detention of three individuals implicated in the case for the duration of the judicial proceedings, rejecting the defense's arguments. It is now time to introduce those involved.
❄️ Albertina Mangini, former head of the parole commission of the province of Buenos Aires. Using her position, she recruited nominees from among people under her supervision for USD 53 in exchange for their personal data, after which former inmates became nominal account holders in the payment systems Ualá, Mercado Pago and PayPal. (Approximately 48,000 people who have served prison sentences live in the province.)
❄️ Mauro Perrotta, owner of the Red Line fitness club chain. He was also an illegal betting operator, managing the nominees' accounts, the betting collection cash desk and the prize payout cash desk.
❄️ Ignacio Leonel Marchioni — financial operator and banking and cryptocurrency intermediary. He held 22 bank accounts and digital wallets with Mercado Pago, Brubank, Ualá, Prex, Banco Santander and Banco Industrial, which were used to distribute the funds. He managed the payment gateway on the Haz Pagos platform, through which the aforementioned USD 18 million were transferred. He was linked to Sur Finanzas, a company that provided loans to first-division football clubs.
🌀 Prosecutor Betina Lacki, who is leading the 18 million case, believes that the original money-laundering scheme involving former inmates was made possible by Marchioni's connections with the president of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, who is suspected of tax evasion.
