🎉 Argentina🇦🇷: the tax regime for cryptocurrency companies has been aligned with that of traditional financial institutions

A decree published in the Official Gazette expanded tax benefits related to the bank account debit and credit tax (impuesto al cheque) for crypto wallets, acquiring services, non-bank payment collectors and cash transportation companies. For the PSAV category (digital asset service providers) registered with the National Securities Commission (CNV), this represents a direct improvement in operating conditions.

⭐️ Decree 475/2026 repeals the 2021 regulation, which granted benefits to bank transfers but did not extend them to cryptoasset transactions. This exception has now been removed.

⭐️ The following operations are now exempt from the tax:

➡️ The purchase and sale of digital assets, including cryptocurrencies.

➡️ Accounts used exclusively for cryptoasset transactions, provided that their holders are operators registered under the PSAV registry.

⭐️ Recent statistics: according to a report from exchange Bitso, stablecoins account for 71% of cryptocurrency purchases in Argentina, while BTC represents 52% of the asset volume held in portfolios. This indicates that the sector has already become a significant payment and savings infrastructure.

⭐️ The removal of this regulatory asymmetry is considered a key measure enabling the tokenization regime, introduced by the National Securities Commission last year, to expand the offering of tokenized financial products. In addition, it may contribute to the development of the Argentine capital market at a time when the country’s position in the MSCI index is under review.
