⛔️ Argentina 🇦🇷: Córdoba bans sports betting ads

The municipality of Córdoba has approved Ordinance N.º 13510, prohibiting the advertising of online operators with the aim to "prevent and mitigate the effects of online gambling on children, teenagers, and society at large."

➡️ To restrict access to gambling sites, adult content, and platforms that could facilitate fraud or other crimes☠️, municipal Wi-Fi networks will be blocked.

➡️ Reminder: Argentina is a federal republic, meaning provinces and municipalities have the authority to regulate the gambling sector. In Córdoba, the regulatory body is Lotería de Córdoba. This agency allows the organization of raffles and similar activities for non-profit organizations with social objectives, provided they are registered in the province.

➡️ Regarding online platforms, prior to this ordinance, regulation was limited, but in September 2024, several modifications were implemented. These included the creation of a biometric registry for adult players to prevent minors from accessing gambling services. Additionally, advertising restrictions were reinforced.

➡️ Before this measure, advertising was already restricted during child protection time slots (until 10 p.m.), on highways, and at mass events, such as musical, artistic, or cultural events with minor participation. Now, online betting advertising is completely banned in the municipality.
