🔣 New development: prosecutors in La Plata arrested a financier linked to illegal gambling who allegedly participated in a scheme involving fictitious deposits and the Sur Finanzas platform.
🔣 As a result, four defendants are now in custody on charges of fraud involving personal data and aggravated money laundering. At the end of August, an employee of the Directorate for Former Prisoners' Affairs was arrested for allegedly using her official position to recruit individuals under her supervision to act as money mules in exchange for USD 53 per person. Two other men are also being held in custody for allegedly managing small-value transfers.
🔣 The woman claims that her mental health has deteriorated and is seeking house arrest. Given the political implications of the case, the request is unlikely to be granted. However, the legal proceedings are still ongoing and could take different turns.
🔣 Context: the money laundering operation involving former inmates and fictitious casinos reportedly turned out to be part of a broader corruption scheme, allegedly involving members of the leadership of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and, in particular, AFA president Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia, who is suspected of tax evasion involving millions of dollars.
In short, the case remains under investigation and continues to develop.
