⚠️ Apple to open NFC access for developers in several countries, but…

…There are some crucial details‼️ Contactless transactions in apps will soon cover a wide range of applications, including in-store payments (independent of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet), digital keys for cars, homes, and hotel rooms, loyalty cards, event tickets, and government IDs.

▶️ However, you’ll need to wait for the release of iOS 18.1 to access these features.

▶️ Developers will need new NFC and SE (Secure Element) APIs, a certified chip designed to securely store sensitive information on the device.

▶️ The feature will be available to developers in Australia 🇦🇺, Brazil 🇧🇷, Canada 🇨🇦, Japan 🇯🇵, New Zealand 🇳🇿, the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, and the U.S. 🇺🇸, with more countries to follow.

It’s important to note that this change is partly the outcome of prolonged disputes with European regulators, who launched an antitrust investigation against Apple. To avoid a $40 billion fine, Apple had to comply… but here’s the silver lining: the regulator allowed the company to continue using tap-and-go technology as part of the agreement.
