😱 AI Scams: Every man for himself❗️
😱 AI Scams: Every man for himself❗️
According to the “Digital Trust Index” by the consulting firm Sift, the emergence and widespread adoption of AI (including public chatbots) have enable scammers to conduct increasingly scalable attacks against both individuals and businesses. These attacks includes phishing emails, photo/video manipulations, fake websites, and voice cloning: even the most digitally savvy people become victims.
➡️ Experts from Sift surveyed 123 fraud and risk specialists from different countries, and on behalf of Sift, the company Researchscape International surveyed 1066 American adults (aged 18 and over). In addition to the consumer survey, the “Digital Trust Index” for the second quarter relies on data from the “Fraud Industry Benchmark Resource” (FIBR), which provides access to key fraud indicators by industry and region.
➡️ In Sift`s global data network, blocked fraudulent content increased by 22% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
➡️ Previous red flags that helped identify scammers (such as typos and syntax errors) are now less common because GenAI tools — like ChatGPT —allow criminals to create polished and convincing written content.
➡️ 73% of consumers are very — or somewhat — confident they can recognize AI scams. Almost one-third of them claim that someone has attempted to scam them using AI, and approximately one-fifty fall for these tricks.
➡️ It seems the only way out for businesses is to invest in AI to "fight fire with fire". This means not only countering threats from AI itself but also to learn from experience optimize customer interactions... to leverage opportunities created by the crisis.
That’s about it.
