🎉 A positive development in Argentina🇦🇷: Sberbank and VTB🇷🇺 customers can now make payments via QR codes
Customers of both Russian banks can now use QR code payments across a growing network of merchants in Argentina, including numerous restaurants, the COTO supermarket chain, and other participating retailers. The new payment option is already available to users.
🔣 For Sberbank customers, the service has been officially available since May. Argentina joins the list of supported countries, which already includes Armenia🇦🇲, Belarus🇧🇾, Brazil🇧🇷, Vietnam🇻🇳, Kyrgyzstan🇰🇬, Tajikistan🇹🇯, Thailand🇹🇭, Türkiye🇹🇷, Uzbekistan🇺🇿, and the Philippines🇵🇭.
➡️ Payments are processed in Argentine pesos, while the corresponding amount is deducted from a ruble-denominated account, with automatic currency conversion applied at the time of the transaction.
➡️ The availability of the service was officially confirmed through a request submitted to the bank’s customer support hotline.
🔣 For VTB, Argentina has become the first country in Latin America to launch QR code payments. The bank plans to expand the service to additional countries in the region.
🔣 Context: According to data from VTB, since the beginning of the year, the bank’s customers have completed more than 524,000 QR code payments abroad, with a total transaction volume exceeding RUB 1.6 billion. The expansion of QR payments is part of Russian banks’ broader efforts to provide alternative international payment solutions for their customers.
